Great news. You have an up to date properly advised Will.
You pass away.
Does your Executor know where your Original Will is? Do they have to turn your house upside down to look for it?
Your Executor will need the Original Will to act on your wishes – and that could include applying for Probate.
Is your Will with your lawyer? Is it hidden amongst all the other Wills in your lawyer’s Wills bank?
We tell our clients to notify their Executor of the location of their Original Will – if the client has taken it home or kept it for safekeeping.
Alternatively, if we are storing their Original Will in our Wills bank, we tell our clients to notify their Executor of the location of their care package – a storage box which includes a copy of their Will which then notifies the Executor the location of the original – which is at our office. The storage box also includes My Workbook, which includes a handy checklist for your Executor, wishes for your Executor, wishes for your guardians, and other practical information as written by us and by you, your Executor will need to administer your Estate.
We also check the Death Notices daily and if we see our client’s name, we will notify their Executor of the location of the Will and upon giving the Will to the Executor, initially guide them through the process at no additional charge.
So, this is your reminder to ask yourself – where is your original Will? Have you told your Executor where your original Will is?
Ps our Wills bank looks nothing like the photo. . Our Wills are logically organised in a fireproof safe.
