You may be renting. You have a steady job and working on your career.
You are single. You have no children. I don’t need a Will right?
You are in a relationship. You have no children. I don’t need a Will right?
Most people have assets that they may have forgotten about, or that may not be payable until their death, such as life insurance. Many of us are worth more dead than alive!
If you are working, you are likely to have superannuation. And if you have superannuation, you are likely to have life insurance.
Check your statement and see how much your superannuation fund will pay when you pass away. If you have no debts or little debts… who is to receive this amount?
At Great Southern Wills, we’ve seen cases where a young adult has passed away with no Will.
With no Will… the parents are fighting with the boyfriend/girlfriend of the deceased. The boyfriend/girlfriend/defacto have to prove that they were in a relationship with the deceased. There’s a fight over the deceased’s superannuation and life insurance. A fight over their Facebook account. A fight over photos and memorabilia. And a fight over the deceased’s body and the right to hold their funeral. All the while, they are grieving and hurting. It hurts us when we see this… and it makes us even more determined to ensure that everyone in the Great Southern has an up to date properly advised Will.
